Okay, this isn’t quite the fourth attempt, but the song came to mind as I thought of how to begin. A boy, a girl, broken promises, hurt feelings. In true Dylan fashion, the opaque lyrics leave the details of the story up to your imagination – and my version centers around a bike.
Technically, this is the third time around. A few years ago I was inspired to repaint a vintage bike for my girlfriend. Itching for a creative project and with Christmas just around the corner, my excitement took over. I sketched out some ideas, gathered everything I would need and got right to work. Everything seemed to go smoothly until… Christmas became Birthday became Anniversary became sad girlfriend sans bicycle. I could claim an excuse, but there really isn’t any. After a certain amount of time, I mostly just lost interest and put it on the back burner. I tried to start up the project again the next year, but instead just solidified my girlfriend’s opinion that the project would never get done.
So here I am today, deciding to try again. My excitement for this project is gradually returning and the blog is to help get me the rest of the way. The third time around will produce a shiny custom bike for my girlfriend. And hopefully for me it’ll end similarly to the last verse of the song
Stay tuned!
